So, as hard as it is to believe, the time is finally here! I leave tomorrow for staging in D.C. and then for South Africa on Thursday, and what I've learned over the past week is that saying goodbye is never an easy thing. Whether it is saying goodbye to your parents, your best friends, your siblings, or your dogs, goodbyes stink. Heck, I even became verklempt this morning, knowing it would be the last time I ordered a coffee from my favorite Starbucks barista for 27 months. What I need to remember, though, is that it's a brief goodbye; I'll see you all soon!
While goodbyes are no fun, as is evidenced in my previous paragraph, I am SUPER excited to begin this adventure. After a wonderful "Farewell Party" thrown by the one and only Pammycakes I have everything I need to set off (a gamut of journals and pens, water purifiers, scarves, pictures, words of wisdom, etc.). Let's just hope I can fit it all in! What makes me even more eager to start is that I know quite a few people who have served as Peace Corps Volunteers, and they only have positive things to say about their experience. I hope that as I go through this journey that you'll follow me in my Peace Corps/South African adventures via this blog. I'll do my best to update as often as possible.
Thanks for all of your love and support!
